After an airliner is exposed to an unknown virus, the crew and passengers will have to fight for survival, cause this is no ordinary virus. It can turn a normal peace loving human into a frenzied cannibalistic maniac in no time, certainly not the kind of company you want at 20,000 ft in the air. After withstanding their first encounter with an infected, they're forced to land at an abandoned airport terminal where they'll find that the nightmare has only just begun.
OK Quarantine 2 is the sequel to 2008's Quarantine, which in itself is a remake of a Spanish movie called Rec. Quarantine 2 and Rec 2 should not be confused with one another. They are apparently very different movies. Good, now with that cleared i can move onto the review proper.
Thankfully i can say the creative minds behind the movie have decided to ditch the shaky cam style of the original in favour of a more standard style of film making which i find a lot easier to sit and watch. Everyone to their own but i really hate shaky cam movies, i find them very hard to sit through. Now, the storyline of Quarantine 2 is actually set in parallel time to the original ie: it's not a straight sequel, the events of Quarantine 2 take place at the same time as the events of the first one. That's not to say in any way that their not connected, cause they are. Just don't expect any familiar faces from the original to show up.
The characters of Quarantine 2 aren't particularly memorable it has to be said, even though there is an effort to make the main antagonists likeable, it really doesn't happen. Sad, though the acting quality isn't too bad just the characters are a bit thin. There's a couple of sequences that are shock worthy, though remember the golden rule kiddies - turn the volume up and the lights down low.
Gore wise Quarantine 2 is pretty light. Some of the cosmetic effects are'nt too bad, though it's nothing we haven't seen before and indeed the 'zombies' in this movie really would'nt look out of place in one of the 28 Days/Weeks movies.
Is Quarantine a decent movie? Well yeah, so long as you don't expect too much. It has good production values for a b-movie and the general pacing is OK (apart from the end). Worth seeing but definitely not one to go out of your way for.
