A group of office workers are on a bus trip when one of them has a premonition of disaster. The suspension bridge that they're crossing is about to give way leaving nothing but carnage and death in it's wake. When they abandon the bus that they're on, they inadvertently thwart Death's plan, leaving the group to fear for their lives as Death returns for them one by one seeking to retake the souls that it lost.
Well here we go again... Another Final Destination. Been there, done that... The formula is starting to get a bit tired. Though, in fairness they have tried to re-invigorate things, just not far enough for my liking.
Were treated to the obligatory and now staple gruesome death sequences which the Final Destination franchise is now famous for. Though they've done the same thing here that they did in Final Destination 3D (ie: Final Destination 4), basically having prominent 3D orientated shots throughout the movie. I don't like it. I find it brings me out of the movie so to speak and doesn't seem natural at all. Though i should point out i'm not a fan of 3D period and i saw this movie in 2D, so others may feel differently.
The basic storyline is very similar to previous Final Destination movies, basically young twenty somethings try to work out what's going on and in the process they meet Bludworth (Tony Todd) and then it's a game of survival etc etc... If you've seen any other Final Destination you'll know what to expect. They've tried to incorporate a new element into the movie to distinguish it in the guise of 'fate transferal'. If you kill somebody else they inherit your death and you inherit their years. It's a similar thread to a recently reviewed movie called The Coffin. Bad karma is not so easily shaken off however. There is a nice twist at the end of the movie that i didn't see coming but it really doesn't do much to elevate the movie truth be told.
I'm not going to recommend Final Destination 5. It's just too damn samey to be recommendable. If you haven't already seen any of these movies then you're better off starting at the beginning. If you are a fan though or you dig grizzly death scenes in general then it may be worth your while catching this, just don't expect too much.
