OK another Final Destination review, this time it's number 2 in the series. Young Kimberly Corman (A.J. Cook) has a premonition whilst out driving with her friends. She sees herself alongside a number of strangers meeting with an untimely and somewhat brutal demise. Of course having foreknowledge of what's about to occur, she intervenes and prevents her own death, alongside the others who were going with her. Well if you've seen any other FD movie you'll know damn well Death doesn't take too kindly to that sort of thing and it embarks on a mission to reclaim it's lost souls. Viciously.
To be frank, if you've seen one FD movie you've seen them all. They all follow the same basic pattern; premonition -> realisation -> prevention -> conclusion. That's not to say they're boring, just that as a reviewer trying to distinguish the differences from one to another is very difficult without spoiling the finer twists that each movie has to offer. Now, where does that leave this FD 2 review? Well I'll try to cover some of FD2's better points without spoiling it too much (if at all).
So far I'd say FD2 is roughly on par as the best movie of the FD series (with number 1), it has some brilliant gore, great suspense, fine acting and also has some strong plot twists. The general special effects are top notch for an early 00's movie and still look superb even today.
Acting wise, A.J Cook takes centre stage and puts in a robust, suspenseful and emotionally charged performance of a young girl trying to deal with the very serious situation she's found herself in. Ali Larter also returns and this time her character is more jaded, more hostile than before. Again her performance is as solid as usual. All round, the acting quality is solid.
The movie's pacing is generally the same as the other FD movies, it doesn't take long for things to get rolling and when it does it keeps on going until the final conclusion. Great stuff. If your a fan of any of the FD movies then your lamost certainly going to like this one. For those of you coming into the franchise for the first time I'd recommend watching number 1 first. There are plot lines that carry through from 1 into 2 and if you haven't seen the first one you won't 'get' everything the movie is on about.
To conclude, Final Destination 2 is a superb movie that shows how strong the FD franchise is as a whole, if you haven't seen it already get your skates on and grab a copy, simple as.
