Looking for a way to escape her small town lifestyle, Amber (Courtney Hope) decides to take a trip to the city with the dream of finding herself an apartment. Her friends decide to tag along, hoping to have some fun and frolics in the process. When they're car breaks down in the middle of nowhere they're forced to hitch a lift of a trucker called Bernard (Bruce Payne). What at first seems like a generous offer soon turns sour as Bernard doesn't want to stop when asked too and to make matters worse he then abandons them in a slaughterhouse filled with some particularly nasty vampires. From here on in, Amber and friends have to work out what's going on and if possible find a way to escape.

Well another vampire flick; this one fortunately is not in the vein of Twilight or some other half-assed, popularity seeking horror that's showing up these days. No this is good old fashioned real horror. There is gore and shocks in this movie and thankfully so, but what i guess elevates it above is the supreme sense of dread and suspense that permeates. It's attention grabbing and the characters are fleshed out well and have their distinct personalities but ultimately we know why they're there (food for vampires).

The acting quality is solid for a b-movie and the general production values are top notch. There is no CGI to be seen and if there is it's so good I couldn't even notice that it was CGI. This is the mark of good film making in my opinion.

Prowl does takes it's time to get started though, it's really not the fastest of movies but once it gets going it doesn't let up. The vampires themselves are reminiscent of the ones seen in 30 Days of Night, they're cold, callous, almost diametrically opposed to the meretricious Dracula we've seen in countless movies of yore. There's also a sweet twist towards the end which i won't spoil but it makes the movie that all bit better and also sets us up for Prowl number 2. I actually wouldn't mind seeing that.

So, in conclusion i cannot see why anyone; certainly any vampire/horror fans wouldn't want to get themselves a copy of Prowl, it's a stirring, suspenseful movie that should certainly work wonders for keeping you happy (or scared) on that lonely night in.
