cyborgtitle

In a future world where society has been ravaged by a killer plague a cyborg woman and her guard come under attack from a ruthless gang led by their maniacal leader Fender (Vincent Klyn). The cyborg gets help in the form of a tracker named Gibson (Jean-Claude Van Damme) though the group, slyly, manage to incapacitate him and take the cyborg captive. The cyborg holds vital information that she must deliver back to a facility in Atlanta, though Fender has ideas of his own as to what should be done with it. Over the course of the movie we she Gibson relentlessly track down Fender and his group looking to settle a few scores.

Cyborg, one of Jean Claude's earlier movies though i would'nt say it's one of his better ones. The acting quality shown in this movie is just awful, truly awful. JCVD and Vincent Klyn have the major roles here and both of them are really stolid and unbelievable in their parts. I mean it's pretty much laughable. Most of the female cast in this movie put in reasonable performances, however they've cast their male actors with a 'brawn over brains' mentality which may well help for good action but it don't help so much when it comes to characters and story.

Anybody who's watched a few JCVD movies before will know he likes to use his high kicks and Cyborg is no different in this regard. High kick after high kick, though it's not as bad as some of his other movies (The Order i'm looking at you). Whilst i would'nt say the action is crap i've definitely seen better.

The special effects look dated also, not that there's very much sfx truth be told. In fact only a few scenes and those are done using old models which look pretty unrealistic, especially in today's movie world.

Cyborg is a straight sci-fi martial arts movie, it ain't scary and it ain't gory at all. The storyline is pretty boring to be honest and the characters are uninteresting. We've seen this a billion times before, in fairness however Cyborg was kinda unusual when it was released back in the late 80's. It may well be the spiritual predecessor to Nemesis, though Nemesis is 10 times the movie this is.

I could only recommend this one to Albert Pyun or JCVD fans, everybody else can avoid.
