After a warning from one of his old friends, Charlie Brewster starts to notice some unusual things about his new next door neighbour Jerry. He thinks he's a vampire. Only he can't prove it, not yet anyway. Jerry gets suspicious of Charlie and thus sets in place a game of cat and mouse which will eventually spiral out of control. Classic sci-fi with intelligent plotting, great performances, and a truly sinister air that touches the human psyche. What if we - the human race - were the product of a dying martian species, apes altered and given psychic characteristics so that, in some form at least, they could survive? A unexploded missile, discovered to be an alien craft, brings these latent inherited characteristics to the fore, resulting in truly horrifying scenes as those not affected are purged by the 'hive', those who share an alien psychic bond.

Dean R Koontz has a lot of fans among readers of horror fiction but I'll state for the record now that I am not one of them. I don't know why, no disrespect intended, but the books of his I have read just didn't hit the spot for me. I guess you can't please everyone all of the time, and in this case I am one of those who Deans work has passed by. I can't say a lot bad about it, but try as I might, I just cannot get into it and feel at home there either.

There's something strange about Will. The poor teenage lad is about to graduate from high school and is having a hard time with his life. He's going through changes, not your average kind however. He's becoming a werewolf, only he doesn't know it yet. Throw into the mix a murky past and a teenage love that seems out of his league and he certainly has a lot to contend with. Though as circumstances will prove, he'll have more to contend with, a lot more when the next full moon comes round.

Yuppies + boat + imminent storm is a sure recipe for disaster. Thank fuck there're no crocodiles or killer fish though, rather a family of psycho inbred types in the sinister and isolated house where the stranded yuppies sensibly decide to take refuge.
