When the local water supply is contaminated with a new chemical the local men start to go crazy. Looking to mangle every woman they find, it's a game of kill and evade for Phill O'Ginny (Drew Bolduc) and his friend Misandra (Colleen Walsh). Course with everybody in town either dead or looking to kill there's very little in the way of help from the cops or friends. Will they survive the mad and surreal world of The Taint or are they destined to be skull fucked.. Literally.
This movie is fucking bonkers. In the first 5 minutes we get to see Misandra and Phil being chased by what looks like a guy wearing red jammies with a scythe. He also has his cock hanging out and also has shit falling out his other end lol. That pretty much sums up the whole style of this movie. It's gratuitous, over the top style is rampant all the way from beginning to end, it's very graphic and it doesn't hold back.
Being an indie movie, The Taint may not have the highest production value you've ever seen but what it lacks in polish it makes up for in pure unadultered fun. Gore is prevalent throughout, we get to see heads being smashed in, brains scattered, faces ripped off... It's really quite colourful and makes for some grizzly viewing from time to time.
The acting quality generally may not be the strongest I've ever seen but for an indie flick it's really quite adequate and you shouldn't be dissatisfied in this area as long as you know what to expect. I thought that Drew Bolduc (who plays two characters: Phil O'Ginny and Drew) was pretty good as the stylish yet slow Phil, his performance makes the movie that bit more cool in my opinion.
Normally we don't cover music but this movie has a strange yet cool retro synth style that really helps embolden it's atmosphere and gives it a strong unique quality. This is pretty rare to see in indie movies and I've got to take my hat off to them for it.
The movies pacing is wild and totally consistent with it's ethos (take no prisoners, i don't give a fuck), it's all over the place. I think The Taints a movie that needs to be watched twice to truly appreciate what's going on and i reckon there'll be a lot of folks who may well find themselves wanting to go in for a second viewing.
To conclude, i think The Taint is brilliant. It's a kick in balls gore fest, that'll drive you on just to see what's around the next corner for Phil and Misandra. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if this movie ends up accumulating a cult following in the coming years, it has a strong style and is certainly attention grabbing. Recommended.
