More Brains! A Return to the Living Dead is the self confessed definitive Return of the Living Dead documentary and i think i may be inclined to agree with them. This documentary sports interviews with all the remaining cast as well those responsible with it's financing and legal issues.
One of the best zombie comedies, if not one of the best horror comedies period is examined under the microscope on this one. I love Return of the Living Dead, it's one of those rare gems that has a certain magic that's difficult to put a finger on. The blend of dark humour and 50's/60's schlock horror is just superb.
One of the things i appreciated in watching More Brains! is the candidness of the opinions. The cast aren't shy about laying it on as it was, there's no sugarcoating like is often found in 'making of' documentary's on modern DVD's. Some of the cast and crew didn't get along such as Clu Gulager and the late great Dan O'Bannon, the movies writer and director. Also, George Romero tried to block the title of the movie cause of obvious conflicts with his own series of movies, which is something i never knew.
This documentary goes into great depth and boy i ain't exaggerating. We get to hear about Linnea Quigley's vaginal makeover each step of the way which sure makes the things, errr... That more interesting.
Some of the cast i didn't even recognise such as Scuzz, i would never have guess that was the actor who played him had the titles not been at the bottom. I was also surprised at how old Linnea Quigley is looking at the moment, though for her age she does look good. James Karen's humour is still there (some things in the universe are always consistent) i'm glad to see.
To conclude More Brains! A Return to the Living Dead is thoroughly brilliant documentary that gives a huge amount of insight into the making of one of the best comedy horror's to grace our screens. Any fan of Return of the Living Dead owes it to themselves to check it out. Recommended without reserve!
