After a collision with a flock of crows a young group of travellers find themselves stranded in the middle of nowhere with their car wrecked. One of their friends has mysteriously disappeared leaving them no choice but to venture into a nearby corn field to try and find him. Once in the field they find an old looking abandoned house which they cautiously approach. When they get there they find something otherworldly is going on and getting away from the corn patch may not be as easy as they previously thought. With the death count stacking up the group have to work out what is going on and devise a plan of escape before it's too late.
Well here we have another After Dark original feature, so far between this movie and Prowl we've got some great things coming out of After Dark. The movies story is a fairly perplexing one but is gratuitously original in many ways. If you stick with it, many of the things will start to make sense towards the end and you should be glad you persevered. Mystery is abound in Husk, the whole thing is just one big mystery and it's got some great twists as it goes along. I'm not going to spoil any more of the story so you'll just have to watch it for yourself to find out.
Sadly the characters are'nt that amazing, fairly predictable teenagers which, well, are fairly one dimensional. They cast act out their parts decently though and this does make the characters more alive than they otherwise would have been.
Husk is a creepy movie, the suspense is nerve jangling in parts. It may not be the goriest of movies (though there is some gory imagery to be found) but it more than makes up for it with it's tense and gripping atmosphere. The corn fields are used to great effect. We know something is there, moving around but we never really get to know what till we get deeper into the movie.
Thankfully CGI is non-existent or so limited it's unnoticeable. The whole thing is directed an choreographed superbly. Needless to say i think Husk is a movie well worth your time to take a look at. It's gripping and it's reasonably original. Definitely worth checking out.
