One Halloween night a group of college friends decide to visit an old abandoned hospital to the ends of having fun, frolics and a general good time. Unknown to them however there's an evil presence residing there that's looking to get out any way it can. This presence has the ability to take over dead bodies, though unfortunately for him, the bodies he inhabits have a tendency to fall apart - quite gruesomely. This situation leaves the kids struggling not only for their own survival but the need to stop the ghost before he can get out, though who do you trust when one of your friends may have been taken over?
This little known b-movie from 2005 proved to be quite the surprise when i finally got around to viewing it. Billed as a ghost movie this has elements from different subgenres built into it IE: zombies. Though it's debatable whether you could technically call them zombies but they certainly aren't ethereal in the way we think of our traditional ghosts.
The characters in this movie sadly aren't that interesting. They're your generic types which we see over and over again, though they are acted out decently enough. The pretty looking Trish Coren plays the main heroine Jessie Holden who for most of the movie seems unusually composed and 'with it'. She's plagued by visions of her old dying mother, visions which the main antagonist and old round evil douche Jacob is more than happy to use against her. Jacob performed by M. Steven Felty, does make a good 'bad guy', one that you love to hate and it could be said that he's probably the character that stands out the most.
Ghost flicks generally tend to be quite light on gore but certainly not this one, the few melting bodies that we get to see look truly gruesome and i have to take my hat off in regards to the visuals. Whilst Boo does manage to create a strong foreboding, dread like atmosphere within the old dilapidated hospital, frights and are not big on the agenda. Indeed i wouldn't say Boo is really frightening at all but it is creepy.
With quality production values (for a b-movie anyways) and a solid cast of actors i would recommend Boo to anyone looking for a creepy night of fun. It doesn't take long for the action and gore to start rolling in so don't be worried about getting bored with this one. Recommended.
