This is a remake of the 1988 movie that Billy reviewed not so long ago, it’s essentially the same kettle of fish only with bigger boobs, more blood and some annoying techno music thrown in for modernisation purposes. I didn’t expect to like this movie to be honest, being a fan of the original, i get touchy when i see movies i care for being milked out. However, i can gladly say that whilst this new version may not be superior to the old one, it is still a quality movie that can stand proud on it’s own right.
This movie sports quite the cast featuring an older looking Edward Furlong as well as Shannon Elizabeth, Diora Baird, Tiffany Shepis, Bobbi Sue Luther, oh and also has a cameo from Linnea Quigley who played Suzanne in the original. Nice nod to the 1988 flick there. All of the cast do well in their respective parts and the general acting standard is decent.
The Demons in this flick are quite a bit more aggressive and fast paced than their 1988 counterparts. If you can imagine how the remake of Dawn of the Dead’s zombies were in comparison to the originals, you’ll get the idea. The movie as a whole is not as eerie as before but it does have some pretty decent gore as well as some small moments of comic relief. As a downside, it’s not really that scary, it’s geared more in an action vein with cheap schlocks. The pacing is decent enough, it never gets boring, there’s always something around keeping your attention IE: all the skin or demons wanting to rip people to pieces. I wondered if they would attempt to re-do the lipstick scene, thankfully they have and yes its pretty cool (Diora Baird used a prosthetic for this by the way).
So to conclude, whilst this new imagining of Night of the Demons is not as good as the original (in my humble opinion), it is still definitely worthy of a look in for avid horror fans or anyone looking for some schlocky viewing with some fine looking women and some quality gore.
If you’re in the mood for a good, old-fashioned horror flick, then Night of the Demons is definitely worth checking out. While it may not be the most original film out there, it’s still a fun ride that will keep you entertained from beginning to end. And, if you’re a fan of the original film, then you’ll definitely want to check out this remake.
Synopsis
Angela Feld (Shannon Elizabeth) is throwing a Halloween party at Hull House, an abandoned mortuary on the outskirts of New Orleans. When the police shut down the party, the revelers move to the nearby cemetery, where Angela has arranged for a seance to be held.
During the seance, something goes wrong and the cemetery gate slams shut, trapping the partygoers inside. They soon realize that they are not alone: Hull House is haunted by the demons of its past, and the demons are hungry for new souls.
As the night wears on, the demons pick off the partygoers one by one. Those who survive must band together and find a way to escape the demons’ clutches – before it’s too late.
