Shark Night 3D starts out with a bunch of college kids taking a break up at a remote lake house owned by one of them. They're the usual happy go-lucky, full of the joys of spring kind of teenage/young twenty something kids we usually see in these kind of movies. Would you believe it, it turns out a mass of sharks has found it's way into the lake and the young kids, completely gobsmacked by what's going on have to find a way to get help. That'll prove trickier than they may think however as it's not only the sharks they need to worry about.
I can save you the hassle of reading this review any further by telling you straight that Shark Night 3D is total crap. I mean absolute garbage. For those of you who'd perhaps like me to justify my reasoning in why i think it's crap, you can read on.
The storyline, of what there is, is very one dimensional, they've tried to put in some twists as the movie moves along but quite frankly i didn't find them believable or even that interesting. The story is just plain boring.
Have you ever watched a movie where you found the characters to be so annoying you ended up rooting for the bad guy? Well that's the way i felt watching this movie. The main characters are just plain annoying, boring and completely cliched, stereotypically naive kids. I empathised more with the sharks than i did with the humans and i mean that.
I won't dis the actors too much though, they do OK-ish i suppose with what is a very flaccid script which is clearly designed to help push through the movie as an action horror in 3D which just so happens to have sharks. 3D is the prime factor there. There lots of 3D orientated shots going on, it didn't do much for the movie in 2D whether the whole 3D effect would elevate this movie i really, really doubt.
The only two things that redeem Shark Night 3D is the lovely looking Sara Paxton who i have to admit is sweet to look at and the special effects of the sharks. The sharks look real enough, though it's a shame they didn't get the leading roles.
This movie is impossible for me to recommend, it's just crap on so many levels. There's hardly any gore and it isn't scary in the slightest. You really really want to avoid this one!
